If you've ever heard anything about dyeing, you may know that one must scour the cloth or fleece before dyeing for an even application of color. Silk fabrics have a build up of sericin, the gummy protein that held the silk cocoon together.

This past Winter, I found myself wondering about the resist pattern that the silk sericin would give if I broke the "rule" and didn't scour my fabric.  The result was this lovely droplet motif, reminiscent of ripples and bubbles in deep water.

8 mm Habotai Silk scarf,  dyed using my fermented Indigo vat.  We grow Japanese indigo each year, this scarf is dyed entirely from our own plants!
